The Town of Sandwich wants to replace two aging public-safety buildings — and residents are being asked to approve the largest capital project in the town’s history through a permanent property-tax override. The buildings are old; nobody disputes that. The fight is over the price, and how it’s being decided.
No Public Forum. No Answers. The Town Has Gone Quiet.
There has been no public forum on this project — no dedicated session where residents can ask questions and get straight answers before being asked to fund it. After a planned outreach event was cancelled in June because the town itself admitted it didn’t have clean numbers to present (Cape News, June 12, 2026), the town has gone effectively silent on the project. Meanwhile, it may still be placed on the warrant for a Special Town Meeting this November — with the same open questions on cost and impact still unanswered.
